I have used the XP default compressor to zip files. Since I installed jZip it does all compressing into zips. All the files I had previously zipped changed to jZip. I prefer the XP compressor. How do I permanently remove jZip as the default compressor, and change all the (many) previously zipped files back to the original zip files. All I need jZip for is rar files. ThanK you. (I'm a novice, please explain as to a dummy;)[/SIZE]

Find the "Configuration" menu opening jZip in "View". Click on it then select "Shell Integration" panel and uncheck "*.zip"
Now XP compressor should be by default.

Thank you. That did it. Perhaps you can help me further: Now when I send compress I'm asked if I want to designate "Compressed (ziipped) folders as the application for handling ZIP files." I click Yes and those files are compressed. But I'm asked it every time I compress. Shouldn't one Yes have been enough?
Since I unchecked Zip from Configuration, my existing pictures Zip files are no longer jZIP, but all my folders and pictures now have a green dot in the lower right corner. What is that?
Also, existing and new zip files icons are now white rectangles with 6 colored dots in the center and a bent upper right corner (excuse me, I'm pretty new). This isn't what they looked like before, when I was using "Compress (zipped)."

Try: Right click on your zipped file -> Property -> Modify -> Select the XP compressor check the box "Always use this...." bellow and click" OK"

I don't know what it is...can you put a picture?
May be you've a other archiver installed...

Thanks yet again, Dylan. Doing as you said returned all my files back to XP Compress. AND the green dots and those icons (I hadn't been able to capture a picture) are gone.
One thing: When I go to Props I have General, next to Open With is Change. I select a program (here XP Compressor). The Always Use box is greyed out, cannot be checked. I OK. I am still asked if I want to use XP Comp when I compress files. I have no other archiver. May I impose on you again for advice?

To compress with the XP default compressor it's very easy, just right click on your non-zipped file and select in the context menu "Send to..." then "Compressed folder" (Something like that I have French version of Windows ^^)

I wasn't clear. Your instructions were, when I was in Properties, and selected XP Compress as "Open With", I should check the "ALways Use This" box. The box is greyed out and can't be checked. So the system doesn't know to always use it, and every time I compress files it ASKS me if I want to use XP Compress.
I can use XP Compress, I'm not able to instruct that it (or any program) Always Be Used. because that box cannot be checked.
Did I explain it better?

Yep you did ^^
It's weird that you can't check the box "Always use..." I'm running on Vista now, I'll try it on XP later so I could see by myself.
But there is something I don't understand, Why you want to use XP compressor? Use jZip!

Dlyan. Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you. As to why I prefer XP Compress, all I need is rar files opened. jZIP can do so much more that it's beyond what I know or understand. Perhaps it's that I'm accustomed to XP Comp. I like it's simplcity. I've not any doubt the jZIP is a far superior product. Let's say it's a race car and I'm more a Toyota person.

I tried it on XP and it always ask like you. As far as I know there is no solution to remove this alert...

Thanks, Dlyan. I'll try to see if XP can help on this. I suspect it must somehow be associated with jZip, as I was never asked the question before I installed it. Do you think uninstalling and reinstalling jZIP might help? If so, what should I check on Configuration for jZIP to have minimal effect, as I only want it for rar files?

I don't think so...or try to uninstall jZip and reboot. Then try to compress a file and click yes when the popup show up.

Check only "*.rar" in jZip configuration (Shell Extension).
